Friends

© Dec 1993, Alan Dougall

I wrestled and lost when
I tried to stop you that day.
You won me as a friend.
You taught me another way.

Stealing from a friend’s house
The window...
...watched by the whole world
Won spoils ..
...then wasted without pleasure.
All for the cost of my soul.

Months locked inside by fear
No confidence to make friends
Worst of all, the image gone.
No longer Mum’s blue-eyed boy.

Years later, His friend I’d become;
His courage to repay the debt.
